Upcoming Auditions

Auditions are held on a Sunday and Monday from 6:00pm-10:00pm with potential Callbacks held on that Tuesday at 6:00pm. A link to the audition signups will be added once they are available, this is usually four weeks prior to the audition date.

This season we are offering an audition workshop for every show! The audition workshops serve to help the auditionees feel more prepared for auditions. These workshops typically take place the Saturday before the audition begins. Children’s Theatre Audition Workshops have two sessions (9am-11am and 11:30am-1:30pm) and cost $10 to attend. Main Stage Audition Workshops have one session (9am-11am) and cost $20 to attend. *You do not have to attend the Audition Workshop to audition for the show.*

Want to Audition?

When coming to an audition at Central Texas Theatre, there are a few things you’ll want to know to help you have the best possible audition.

  1. Prepare – Find out what type of audition material the director is requesting.
    • When auditioning for musicals it is best to choose a song in the same style as the production if the director does not request performers to choose from a specific list.
      • Musicals require each performer to sing a 30-60 second vocal selection that shows off your voice.
      • You can audition a Capella (with no music), or you may play your selected track from your digital device. You will want to ensure that you can be heard above any music you play as microphones are not utilized during the audition process.
    • If the play you are wanting to audition for is a straight play, you might need to prepare a 60 second monologue from a similar production.
    • It is always best to contact the Box Office and get any information the director is requesting to see at the audition so you come with all of the necessary pieces.
  2. Sign Up – Some auditions rotate through small groups and allow you to arrive during a time slot instead of at the start of auditions. Please sign up for your audition time slot via the Audition Sign Up link. These links will be posted about one month prior to the audition.
  3. Audition Day – Wear comfortable clothes and arrive at the theatre approximately 10 minutes early. For musicals, you will be placed in a small group to rotate through the various audition stages. Depending on the show you are auditioning for, you will rotate through vocals, dance and a cold read (reading through a portion of the script). During the dance portion, your group will be taught a short choreography bit, then be asked to “perform” it as a group one time in front of the director. There is always the chance that there will be an audience to your audition, so deep breath and shoulders back, you’ve got this.
  4. Call Backs – Sometimes directors will call certain people back for a “call back” audition. This is to try them in different roles or to see how they might interact with others who might be in the play. Receiving a call back is not a guarantee to be in the show, nor is not receiving a call back a sign you were not chosen. It simply means the director needs a bit of a closer look at some of the possible cast.
  5. Announcements – Cast members are typically contacted by phone after the directors make their decisions on all roles. Once all roles have been accepted, an announcement will be made on our social media channels.

What does it cost to be in a play?

All of our actors, both for Main Stage and Children’s Theatre are able to participate for absolutely ZERO cost to themselves or their families! This is all due to the enormous generosity of our sponsors and funding that the theatre receives through grants.

It remains our goal at Central Texas Theatre to provide opportunities to all who are interested in pursuing the Arts and granting them the training, the experience and ultimately the stage to fulfill their dreams.
